The More You Eat the More You Lose

Yep. It's totally true. I never would have believed it until I had it happen to me. When I first started actively trying to lose weight last September, I initially lost quite a bit. 10 lbs in the first 4-6 weeks. I was stoked. I've lost a total of 38 lbs now but December was ROUGH. Not because of holidays or food. I just plateaued. HARD.

I lost 2 lbs the entire month of December. The less I lost the less I ate. At my lowest I was eating only 800 calories a day. I didn't feel hungry or starved. I ate what I wanted and that was 800 calories. I could not understand WHY I wasn't losing weight so I took to the great Google oracle to find out.

I began searching how to break a plateau and somehow landed on Jillian Michaels website. Now personally I do not particularly like her methods. They may work for some but from what I've seen of her, she is very narrow minded. I do not believe you have to exercise until you puke in order to lose weight. Read my first paragraph again if you don't believe me. But she had an article on why she doesn't believe plateaus exist. It was late and nothing else I'd read seemed like it was of any use so I started reading her article.

She says she doesn't believe in plateaus. That what happens to most people is they either begin eating more without realizing it OR eating less thinking they'll lose faster. Either way is not good. I was on the eating less end. In her article, she asked to give her three days. That for three days to increase your calorie count so your body gets out of starvation mode. Against everything my entire brain was telling me I began eating 1200 calories a day. By the third day I'd lost 2 lbs.

Now I eat 1200 calories a day and since Jan 1st I've lost eight lbs bringing my total up to 38. So if you're dieting and stuck, I'd suggest you take a look at how much you're eating because as stupid as this sounds, you can eat too little. Really, that's a thing.

Mania=Weight Gain

I've been running on manic for the last few weeks. And as usually happens I've gained five pounds. I'm not sure why. Well that's not entirely true. I've not been exercising regularly. Normally I exercise daily but the weather sucks. I don't want to go out and walk. It's cold. And I'm manic nine ways of Sunday which doesn't help. I can't concentrate and I've had days where I've not eaten entirely as I should.

Even though I know all of this, I still can't seem to get back into my old routine. I was doing really really well until the middle of November. I can't even blame Thanksgiving turkey. I've just been down right LAZY.

I need to snap out of it. I'm trying hard but the weather doesn't want to cooperate. I walked the last two days and then it rained all day today. So I did nothing.

I know I could exercise in the house. I have an exercise bike and elliptical. But I HATE machines. I get bored after five mins and I don't do enough of a work out on them to even count so why bother?

Ugh I'm so frustrated with myself. I've lost 35lbs since Sept 1st. I do NOT want to gain it back. But I'm seriously unmotivated. I need to tape this to my computer. It's so freaking TRUE!

Running and Not For Cake

I could seriously eat all of this if I wouldn't need a forklift to get out of my house
I recently decided I'd start running. Or at least try to. I've been walking 5k (or 3.2 miles) every day for the last three months. The reason being I want to lose weight. Walking is about the only exercise I can do consistently. Mostly because I get bored and don't want to exercise as much as I should.

But with walking I'm outside, got my tunes on, and it's not as boring as staring at a wall on a machine.

So I downloaded a couch to 5K app on my phone. For the first five minutes you do a warm up walk. Then for the next fifteen minutes you alternate running and walking. You walk for one minute then run for one minute. Then you do another 5 minute cool down walk.

I started this on Sunday Dec 15th. My goal is to do 3 days a week of run/walking. I don't expect to be running marathons or anything soon or ever for that matter. But I just want to boost my metabolism a bit.

I've been dieting since Sept 1st of this year. Although I hate using the word "diet" because I don't diet. I eat whatever I want. And I truly mean whatever I want. Yesterday I had a chocolate chip frappe from McDonald's. But I don't eat more than a 1000 calories in a day.

And I don't have frappes that often but I do have them. I don't want to cut my calories any more than I have that's the reason I've started the couch to 5K.

And I must admit I was incredibly surprised that I actually was able to do the entire 25 mins of run/walking.

This is part of the reason I finally decided to break down and start blogging. It's motivation. Even if no one reads it, I've put it out there in the universe so it means I have to do it.

I've lost 32 lbs in the last 3 months. I hope to lose at least 50 more. I'm not doing anything fast or crazy. Just slow and steady.

But regardless of how much weight I lose there will be no burkinifor me. Seriously people need to just stop with this stuff.
